Matthew Hatton desperate for title
Matthew Hatton said his desire to emulate his brother Ricky will fire him to the European welterweight title by beating Gianluca Branco.
Hatton takes on the veteran Italian live on Sky Sports on Friday Fight Night, and he will have Ricky at ringside once again cheering him on, as he again hinted his own fighting career could be over.
Hatton says that the ten-year age gap between him and Branco will be to his advantage, but his pure desire to take the belt will be too much for the Italian.
"I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't an advantage being ten years younger, of course it is," Hatton said on Sky Sports News. "But I'm more motivated for this fight, he's been European champion before but I really want, this I want this bad."
For Ricky's part, he insisted that there was no simmering sibling rivalry between the two brothers.
"There's no animosity between me and Mathew we're best mates, but I have no doubts that with all the big nights I've had Matthew has been sat in the background craving for his big night to come along," said Hatton.
"His big brother's got nothing to do with it though, because I don't throw the punches for him and he deserves all the credit for getting to this level."
Hatton also said he is loving life as a promoter, and even though he has played down talk of retirement, he could well have been seen in the ring for the last time.
"After you've retired, the next best thing after you've been a champion is to make a champion," added Hatton. "And that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to make champions of all these fighters and hopefully my brother will be a champion on Friday."
