Boxing: Ward defends WBA title

Andre Ward won a one-sided fight against Allan Green on points to successfully defend his WBA super-middleweight title.

The three judges unanimously awarded all 12 rounds to Ward, who kept his opponent pinned back on the ropes for the majority of a Super Six no-contest.

Ward had been dominant in beating Dane Mikkel Kessler last time out and was even more firmly on top in tonight's fight, hammering away at the body of Green and regularly catching him with uppercuts.

Green was not originally selected for the round-robin tournament and was only included as a replacement for the injured Jermain Taylor.

He must now beat Kessler inside three rounds if he is to reach the semi-finals of the series. Ward is already assured of a last-four spot, and victory in his final fight against Andre Dirrell would ensure he goes into the knock-out stages as top seed.
