"I think he can take the world by storm."
Oscar De La Hoya says new heavyweight king David Haye has the calibre to take the world by storm.
De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions are backing the Brit to finally put some excitement and charisma back into what once was boxing's marquee division.
His win over Russian giant Nikolai Valuev in Germany just over a week ago saw him take the WBA belt.
And De La Hoya - the sport's biggest box-office attraction before his retirement earlier this year - believes Haye has what it takes to become a massive star.
He told Sky Sports News: "I'm really really excited about David Haye - he can inject enthusiasm and charisma - bring back those fans that were so passionate about the heavyweight division."
The Klitschkos currently dominate on the heavyweight scene, but are criticised for their robotic style and lack of star quality.
De La Hoya though says Haye has everything required to steal the glory.
He added: "He's a tremem talent, a tremendous fighter. I commend him for sticking to his gameplan (against Valuev).
"I think he can take the world by storm."
