Sarwan fitness scare for Windies

West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan is a doubt for the first Test against Australia after suffering a back injury in training.

The left-hander, who was one of the tourists' best players in their drawn tour match against Queensland last weekend with scores of 73 and 66, went down hurt during training today.

Sarwan remained on the ground for several minutes before being helped from the field by team physiotherapist CJ Clark for tests.

West Indies can ill-afford to lose Sarwan from their top order with skipper Chris Gayle only just returning to Australia after rushing home to Jamaica last week to be at the bedside of his ill mother.

Gayle will play in the first Test but is likely to be suffering from the effects of jet lag following his arrival in Brisbane today.
