La Liga Team of the Week 06
Eugene YS Han picks the top eleven players of the week from La Liga and it's dominated by not one but four Barcelona players.
Victor Valdes - Barcelona
Victor Valdes is part of the reason why Barca have conceded just eight goals so far this season. Up against the attack-minded Real Madrid, Valdes further enhanced his creditials with a number of important saves. It will please many Barca fans that one of his saves was against Real's record signing Crisitano Ronaldo.
Daniel Alves - Barcelona
Daniel Alves has not been a consistent enough performer for Barcelona but his diplay on Sunday against Real Madrid was top-class. He was a constant threat on the right flank and it was his cross that gave Zlatan that chance to volley home against Real.
Carles Puyol - Barcelona
It's not often that a defender dominates the headlines but Pep Guardiola couldn't help but sing the praises of Carles Puyol. The Spaniard was a key figure in the Barca defence during their 1-0 win over Real Madrid. Puyol made at least three game-saving tackles - the most eye-catching was the block on Marcelo as the Brazilian left wing-back shaped to shoot.
Ustaritz - Athletic Bilbao
Ustaritz Aldekoaotalora maintained his usual polished standards during Bilbao's 4-1 win at Almeria where he also chipped in with a goal.
Alberto Lopo - Deportivo
Uncompromising central defender Alberto Lopo was Deportivo's match-winner when he reacted quickest in the box to score against Racing Santander. Lopo was part of the Depor defence that withstood Racing onslaught in the first-half and it's fitting the defender scored the goal to give his team their fourth away win of the season. That's one more than Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Didier Zokora - Sevilla
The former Tottenham hardman helped shore up Sevilla's midfield as they went for broke after going two goals down. His timely interventions in midfield ensured the Sevillistas were not caught out by counterattacks.
Sergio Aguero - Atletico Madrid
The dilemma continues at Atletico. Sergio Aguero was again irresistible for Atletico Madrid after he had a hand in all four goals in his team's 4-0 win over Espanyol. But the more headlines the Argentine makes, the more likely that another club will come swooping for him.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Barcelona
For the array of talents on show, it took a substitute to make the breakthrough. Zlatan Ibrahimovic took just five minutes to prove his worth for Barcelona as he stole in to slam home a magnificent goal to help grab all three points for the Catalans in the 'El Clasico' on Sunday. Both teams had difficulty getting the ball past both goalkeepers, Iker Casillas and the under-rated Victor Valdes, but Zlatan's emphatic finish gave Casillas no chance.
Luis Fabiano - Sevilla
Sevilla were 2-0 down to Malaga before Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano intervened to score two goals to level the match. Fabiano showed his striking versatility with a headed goal off from a corner and the equaliser
Roberto Soldado - Getafe
While Real Madrid slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Barcelona, one of their former players was grabbing the headlines. Roberto Soldado, who played for Real from 2005 to 2008, grabbed a hat-trick in Getafe's 5-1 rout of Xerex. It was his second hat-trick of the season after he grabbed one on the opening day of the season against Racing Santander.
Ayoze Garcia Perez - Tenerife
Ayoze Garcia Perez was the hero for Tenerife as he stole in to head in a Nino's cross to ensure his team drew 3-3. Tenerife had been 3-0 down during the match. They had also just found the net just once away from home before this game.
