Ensuring qualification to the next round was all that mattered to Villareal coach Ernesto Valverdel.

Two goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Marcos Senna secured them a place in the round.

Recovering from a recent slump in their away form, the Yellow submarines sunk the hopes of Levski Sofia. And with the aid of group leaders Salzburg who knocked out Lazio, they are clean through.

Commenting on his team's performance at a press conference, the gaffer had nothing but praise:

"This was not an easy match because the pitch was difficult and we had a hard time adapting to the game, but Villarreal have shown professionalism and has dominated and won.

"The team has been able to handle the game, has been great in the defensive effort and very secure. The key was to be strong at the back and be sure not to make mistakes.

"We were in trouble after two losses, but the team has reacted and thus we have qualified, which was the goal we sought, and although we do not finish first, now until late January we are free from this competition."
