Younus skips domestic tourney

Younus Khan's availability for the tour of Australia remains uncertain after his no-show at the domestic Quaid-e-Azam tournament.

Younus was supposed to appear for his departmental team Habib bank in their ninth round Quaid trophy match in Islamabad, but failed to show up, leaving a big question mark over whether he was interested in making himself available for the selection.

As the national selectors were due to announce the Test squad for Australia around December 8 or 9, sources in the Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) said time has been running out for former captain.

"Unless he is clear about whether he wants to tour Australia or not, the selectors also remain in a quandary," a source in the PCB said.

He said the most important thing remains that since Younus had himself withdrawn from the Test tour of New Zealand owing poor form as the prime reason, the selectors were looking to have a first hand look at his form in the domestic series.

"It would be strange if the selectors pick up a player who pulled out from a tour because of poor form without testing him in any of the domestic match," the source added.

Meanwhile, when asked, chief selector Iqbal Qasim declined to comment on the situation.

"I think in the next few days when either Younus or myself have a meeting with the Chairman of the board, the situation will become clear. But so far, Younus has not told anything to us about his plans for the Australian tour," Qasim said.

Other sources also indicated that Younus himself is undecided about touring Australia.

"He has not had a very good experience as captain after the Twenty20 World Cup victory in July and he is not sure if this is the right time for him to join the team in Australia," the source said.
