Five star Canadiens cruise

The Montreal Canadiens celebrated their birthday in style with a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins in the NHL.

Mike Cammalleri scored his fourth career hat-trick with a treble strike in the second period as the 24-times Stanley Cup winners celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the franchise.

Jaroslav Spacek and Glen Metropolit also netted before Vladimir Sobotka ruined Carey Price's shut-out in the final session, in front of a sell-out crowd of 21,273.

The New Jersey Devils finished strongly against the Tampa Bay Lightning, with three final period goals giving them a 3-2 win.

Vincent Lecavalier wrapped around to give the struggling Lightning the lead early in the second period - but the Devils turned things around with two powerplay opportunities in less than four minutes.

Brian Rolston tied the game before rookie Niclas Bergfors pounced and although Steve Downie was another to take advantage of the extra man when he levelled the scores with three minutes remaining, captain Jamie Langenbrunner tipped in the game-winning goal with 39 seconds remaining.

Dan Hamhuis, Martin Erat, Jordin Tootoo and Joel Ward got the goals which gave the Nashville Predators a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jonathan Toews gave the Blackhawks the lead - but Hamhuis made sure they were pegged back before the end of the first period before they surrendered their eight-game home winning streak.

Guillame Latendresse scored the winning goal in the shoot-out to give the Minnesota Wild a 5-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Mikko Koivu and Antti Miettinen scored two goals apiece in regulation for Minnesota, and Miettinen also scored in the shootout.

Joffrey Lupul had two goals in his return to the line-up for the Ducks and then scored in the third round of the shoot-out.

Bobby Ryan also scored twice for Anaheim, whose Teemu Selanne has undergone surgery on a broken hand and is expected to be out for around five weeks.
