Club Cup to start with a bang

The FIFA Club World Cup organisers have promised that football fans will be served a “spectacular” performance for the opening ceremony.

The itinerary for the opening and closing ceremonies for the FIFA showpiece event was revealed on Sunday, with the tournament set to start in midweek.

"At the heart of both ceremonies is the celebration of an exciting and prestigious festival of football," said Stephen Powell, the creative director for the ceremonies.

"We hope that they will inspire fans to play an active part in the celebrations, while building the atmosphere in the stadium.

"Spectators can expect visually spectacular performances befitting the prestige of this international event, as well as the unique culture of the UAE."

The opening game of the Club World Cup involves UAE League champions Al Ahli and Auckland City, the victors of the New Zealand Football Championship.

UEFA Champions League title-holders Barcelona and 2009 Copa Liberatdores winners Estudiantes enter the fray at the semi-finals next week.
