Ranieri admits good fortune

Roma manager Claudio Ranieri has admitted that his side were lucky in their 1-0 victory over Fiorentina.

The Viola climbed to second place in Serie A behind Inter Milan after their win over the Viola.

The Italian media, desperate for some competition to Inter at the top, are excited by Roma's resurgence, but Ranieri is keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground.

"I understand that the media want to find a rival for Inter on the ladder, but they are too strong," Ranieri told Datasport. "I want to give my compliments to Fiorentina, because no side has attacked as much as they did against us."

"We knew that this was not going to be an easy match because Fiorentina wanted to win. They were full of energy, and put us in danger on a number of occasions.

"Deep down, we knew that we could win. A little bit of luck also helped us, but the important thing is that we won."

Ranieri has led a stunning revival for the capital team taking them from the bottom of the table at the beginning of the season into second place. The manager has credited a solid work ethos for the Lupi's dizzying climp up the ladder.

"I came to Roma very willingly, as we were in a bad position in the league," he said. "But with lots of hard work and determination, we have managed to get the right results are getting the right reward."
