Ivory Coast's search continues

Guus Hiddink has not signed a deal to coach Ivory Coast at this summer's World Cup, the country's football federation said.

It was widely reported the Russia coach, who will take over as boss of Turkey on August 1, had agreed teams to lead the Elephants to South Africa.

But Ivorian Football Federation president Jacques Anouma told reporters this evening: "I know you all expect me to tell you the name of the new coach of the Elephants, but I have not yet signed with a coach.

"I've actually met many, as mentioned in your various newspapers. But none has yet been chosen."

Hiddink took Russia to the semi-finals of the 2008 European Championship but they failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup.

It is believed his contract with the Russian federation, which runs until the end of June, could be a sticking point in negotiations.

Former Japan coach Philippe Troussier and ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson have also been linked with the job.

Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked as Ivory Coast coach after their quarter-final exit from the African Nations Cup in January.
