Ingram given another chance by NZ
Peter Ingram has been recalled to New Zealand's one-day side to replace Jesse Ryder for the tri-series in Sri Lanka next month.
The 31-year-old Ingram was helped by the unavailability of Aaron Redmond to gain a spot in the touring party following Ryder's withdrawal with an elbow injury..
The batsman will join the squad in Australia this week to prepare for the tournament. "We considered a few players but felt that an experienced opener was required so Ingram got the nod," the coach and selector Mark Greatbatch said.
"Aaron Redmond was in contention but was unavailable due to his wedding overseas and that opened the door for Ingram. Ingram played in our last ODI series against Australia at home and we were looking for top-order cover so he was the natural choice," Greatbatch was quoted saying in cricinfo.com.
Ingram was dropped after struggling against Australia in March, but now has a chance to add to his six ODIs. After coming into the squad this year, he has also played two Tests and three Twenty20s, with an international best of 69 in his one-day debut against Bangladesh in February.
