Western Force sign Henderson
The Western Force have boosted their prop brigade for next year's Super 14 season by signing Nic Henderson.
Henderson will join fellow Wallaby props Pek Cowan and Matt Dunning, as well as former Hurricanes player Tim Fairbrother, at the Force after signing a two-year deal today.
Once a Melbourne Storm recruit, Henderson debuted with the Brumbies and Wallabies in 2004. He last represented Australia in 2006 in a win over Italy.
RugbyWA general manager Mitch Hardy is delighted with the addition of the 28-year-old three-Test Wallaby.
"We think Nic adds experience and strength to our front row stocks and leaves us with outstanding depth in that area for the 2010 season," Hardy said.
"We now have three capped Wallaby props, with Tim Fairbrother sure to push for higher honours too.
"Nic was a leader at the Brumbies, and we're certain he'll bring those qualities with him as well."
Henderson, who played only seven of 13 matches this year, is hopeful of reinvigorating his career with the Force after seven seasons with the Brumbies.
"I've been in the Brumbies programme my entire rugby career so far and I felt like part of the furniture down in Canberra, but the time had come to look for a fresh opportunity," Henderson said.
"My motivation was a bit down and I definitely needed a new start. I'm coming into the second half of my career and I've got a huge desire to improve.
"A change is as good as a holiday they say, but I think whenever you go into a new environment there's plenty of incentive to do well.
"You want to make the best impression in front of your new coaches and team-mates and that's the opportunity I'm looking forward to in coming to Perth."
The Force hope Henderson's inclusion will enable them to secure a berth in the top four for the first time in the club's short history.
