Rugby: Indian eve gear up for 7's

Bangalore is all set to play host to its first All India Women's Rugby 7's Invitational Tournament featuring eight teams, including six of the top club sides in India, on August 21 and 22.

The eight participating teams include Indian Probables, Indian Possibles, Bangalore, Pune, Jungle Crows (Kolkata), Mumbai, Maharashtra Police, and Chennai.

The 'Probables' and 'Possibles' teams comprises of players who could make the cut for the national team which will participate at the 2010 Asian Games scheduled in November.

Talking about the tournament, Pramod Khanna, President of Rugby India said, "India has been a late entrant on the women's rugby scene. Despite that, we have done very well in the short time, which is reflected in our 11th ranking in the Asian circuit."

"I believe that we are strong contenders to win some silverware at the Asian Games scheduled in November in China and tournaments like these act as a good platform for scouting talent and providing match practice to the players," he said.
