Wallabies up for All Black challenge
Adam Ashley-Cooper insists Australia are not daunted by having to win three out of four clashes to reclaim the Bledisloe Cup.
The Wallabies last held the famous trophy in 2002 and with three of the matches to be played on foreign soil - Auckland, Wellington and Tokyo - returning it to Australian Rugby Union headquarters is a massive task.
However, Ashley-Cooper says the 2009 squad is not afraid to think big, suggesting the prospect of a clean sweep of Graham Henry's men is not out of the question.
"Not at all," he said when asked if beating the All Blacks three times has the Wallabies shaking in their boots.
"You just focus week to week but it's possible.
"I think that everyone has a goal of beating the Kiwis four out of four times but you can't get too carried away with that.
"We just take it week by week and our first Test is this Saturday night against the Kiwis."
Before the Wallabies can entertain thoughts of polishing the silverware, they must first find a way to break their Eden Park hoodoo having not tasted victory at the venue since 1986.
And the magnitude of that task is not lost on Ashley-Cooper, who still rates the All Blacks the best in the business.
"It doesn't get any tougher against the All Blacks, especially on their home turf and in front of their home crowd," he said.
"Opportunities like this don't come around too often and everyone's excited by it. It's always a special game against New Zealand and hopefully we make it a special night on Saturday."
Meanwhile, the 26-Test veteran played down speculation the All Blacks' injury-plagued build-up to the clash leaves them vulnerable.
"We're facing a world-class backline and a world-class team - they're the benchmark in world rugby and I think everyone's excited by it," Ashley-Cooper insisted.
Asked to rate the progress of the Wallabies backline, he warned: "We've been together all through 2008 and obviously 2009 now so the combinations are starting to come together really nicely.
"We have a great awareness of each other's ability on and off the field so I think that's showing with our performances on the park."
