
Van den Berg leaves Sharks for Japan
Veteran Sharks lock Albert van den Berg has left South Africa for Japan, where he has signed for Canon Club.
The 36-year-old, who became the most capped player for the Durban-based franchise last year with 171 appearances, has penned a one-year deal after an illustrious career with both club and country. He began his career in with Vaal Triangle in 1994, before representing Griquas, the Cats and then the Sharks. Van den Berg has also featured in 51 Tests for the Springboks and was part of the 2007 World Cup-winning squad. Sharks chief executive Brian van Zyl said: "We would like to wish Albert and his family the very best for the future. "His humble and calm manner has had a great influence on the players around him. "On behalf of everyone at The Sharks, I want to thank him for his massive contribution to our rugby, our brand and province throughout his playing career."
