England international winger Lesley Vainikolo has agreed a new two-year contract with Gloucester.

The 30-year-old was out of contract at the end of the current season and becomes the 15th member of the 2009-10 squad to agree a new deal with the club, putting an end to speculation about a possible return to rugby league.

Head coach Bryan Redpath said: "I'm really pleased that we've agreed terms with Les. He's worked so hard to get back to fitness after his Achilles injury and I think we're just seeing him get back to the form that we know he's capable of.

"He's been excellent for us in 2010. He's always been capable of finishing off moves but he's also been sucking in defenders and creating space for others.

"It's not just about his contribution on the pitch though. He's a great character around the club, hugely popular with the rest of the squad and it'll be good to have him around for a couple more years."

Tongan-born Vainikolo initially made his name in rugby league and won two Grand Finals with the Bradford Bulls before switching codes and joining Gloucester on a three-year deal in 2007.

His first game for Gloucester was one to remember as he scored five tries against Leeds at Headingley. He finished that season with 11 tries from 18 appearances and also won his first England cap in the 2008 Six Nations.

In recent weeks, the 'Volcano' has been on fire at Gloucester. His excellent form has resulted in him scoring four tries since the turn of the year and he has been involved in setting up several others. In total, he has scored 23 tries in 53 starts for the Cherry and Whites.
