Saracens have completed the signing of prop Petrus du Plessis from Championship club Nottingham.

The 27-year-old South African had been due to join Saracens next season, but he now arrives with immediate effect following injuries to Carlos Nieto and Tom Mercey.

Du Plessis, who is English-qualified, has linked up with the Saracens squad preparing for next Sunday's Guinness Premiership clash against Newcastle.

"We have watched Petrus for some time, and we are delighted to have secured his services," said Saracens rugby director Brendan Venter.
