Nadal leads Spanish stroll
Hopes of a home success in the Barcelona Open were boosted as a total of six Spaniards got through to the last 16.
Nicolas Almagro, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez won in the afternoon session to join compatriots Rafael Nadal, Tommy Robredo and David Ferrer, who each progressed earlier in the day.
World number one Nadal saw off Frederico Gil 6-2 6-2 first up and Robredo beat Gaston Gaudio 7-6 6-1.
Second-seed Verdasco coasted to a 7-5 6-3 win over qualifier Nicolas Lapenti, booking a meeting with Tomas Berdych in the next stage.
Almagro showed the greatest resilience to come from behind for the second day in a row, this time edging Juan Ignacio Chela after saving two match points.
David Nalbandian awaits in the last 16.
Lopez was the last of the six to confirm his progress, losing the first set before rallying to see off Santiago Ventura on centre court.
Also through to the next stage are Fernando Gonzalez, Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Monaco, while Potito Starace surprised Robin Soderling 6-7 6-2 6-2 and Christophe Rochus dismissed Richard Gasquet.
