AITA disappointed at ITF decision

AITA disappointed at ITF decision

The All India Tennis Association is not happy with the ITF's decision to slap just a token punishment on Australia.

ITF has slapped just a token punishment on Australia
for forfeiting their Davis Cup tie against India. The AITA is in no mood to let the issue die.

The Davis Cup Committee of the International Tennis Federation in a meeting held via conference call on Friday decided that Australia would not be suspended from the 2010 competition or relegated from the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I.

The AITA said they are disappointed with the decision and will take up the matter with the governing body of the game for further action.

"All India Tennis Association has received a communication from the ITF outlining the penalties imposed on Australia for non-participation in the Davis Cup tie against India.

"The decision of the committee was not unanimous and the letter is only communicating the penalties and is not giving any details of the debate and discussion which has led the Davis Cup Committee to take such a decision.

"AITA is disappointed with the decision taken up by the Davis Cup Committee and will take it up at an appropriate level in the ITF," Colonel Ranbir Chauhan, AITA Executive Director, said in a statement.

The ITF had decided to impose a mild punishment - a fine of $ 10,000 on Australia apart from taking away their right to choice of ground for their next tie.
