Patty Schnyder is still on track to end her wait for another WTA Tour clay court title after easing past Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-2 6-2.

Schnyder, whose last title on the surface came the last time she played in Palermo in 1998, was joined in the last eight by Italian favourite Sara Errani, who scored a 7-6 (8/6) 6-1 win over Austria's Patricia Mayr.

In the final two second round matches played at the Internazionali Femminili di Tennis di Palermo on Thursday, Germany's Anna-lena Groenefeld beat qualifier Arantxa Rus 7-6 (7/5) 6-3, and Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova beat Italy's Alberta Brianti 6-3 6-2.
