Jankovic lifts Cincinnati title

Jelena Jankovic clinched her second WTA Tour title of the season.

Jankovic secured her second title after defeating world number one Dinara Safina in the final of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open in Cincinnati.

Safina ended the run of comeback girl Kim Clijsters in the quarter-finals and also saw off in-form Flavia Pennetta in the last four but she had no answer to the Serbian, who triumphed 6-4 6-2.

Jankovic needed just one break to claim the first set while she always looked in control in the second.

Jankovic said: "I'm really pleased that I was able to play well today and beat the number one player in the world, and beat Elena Dementieva on Saturday.

"I got quite a few good wins under my felt belt this week."

Safina added: "I think I was a little bit off. Basically I would say it was not my day. She was using some good shots and hitting very close to the lines and down the lines. She played some great tennis today."
