Nadal-Federer Davis Cup tie on

Nadal-Federer Davis Cup tie on

Rafael Nadal's Spain have been drawn to face Roger Federer's Switzerland in next year's Davis Cup.

The two nations were paired with each other when the World Group first-round draw was made in Geneva on Wednesday.

The tie will take place in Spain, almost certainly on clay, on March 5-7.

Neither Nadal nor Federer has yet confirmed his commitment to Davis Cup in 2010, but the Australian Open champion has been a regular on the reigning champions' team when fit, while the Davis Cup is one honour not yet on Federer's CV.

The other stand-out clash will see Serbia play host to USA, which raises the prospect of Novak Djokovic taking on Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick.

The winners of that tie will meet Croatia or Ecuador in the quarter-finals.

Also in the bottom half of the draw, Chile will host Israel, while Belgium will entertain this year's finalists the Czech Republic. The Czechs will play Spain in the 2009 final in December.

In the top half, Spain or Switzerland will meet either France or Germany in the last eight.

The other first-round ties see Russia at home to India, while Argentina will travel to Sweden.
