Bopanna qualifies for Germany

Rohan Bopanna beat Louk Sorensen to book a berth in the singles event of the ATP Challenger tournament.

The sixth seed came from behind to topple second seed his Irish opponent 4-6 7-6(2) 6-3 in the third and final qualifying round to enter the main draw of the euro 42450 hard court event in Aachen, Germany.

Bopanna will take on local lad Simon Stadler in his first round match.

Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi are seeded second in the doubles event and will start their campaign against Croat Wild Card pair of Nikola Mektic and Ivan Zovko.

Somdev drops to 124 despite good show in US

Despite putting up one of his best performances of the season, Somdev Devvarman dropped eight places to 124th in the ATP rankings issued.

Somdev reached the final of the Charlottesville Challenger event where he lost to Kevin Kim on Sunday.

Prakash Amritraj though jumped 19 places to 204.

In the doubles list, Leander Paes (8) and Mahesh Bhupathi (7) had their rankings unchanged.

In the WTA list, Sania Mirza also found her singles ranking unchanged at 58th but gained a place to be 37th in doubles.
