British number one Elena Baltacha overcame a slow start to reach the second qualifying round of the Indian Wells Open.

Baltacha, who is hoping to break into the world's top 50 this year, lost the opening set against Julia Boserup, but the Scot regrouped to claim a 2-6 6-4 6-4 victory.

Boserup had not been expected to pose much of a problem for Baltacha - with the American ranked 500 places lower than the 26-year-old.

However, she was able to frustrate and disrupt Baltacha - although the Brit was able to dig deep to grind out the win.

Both players were guilty of failing to hold their serves, with a total of 10 breaks, but Baltacha managed to hold when it mattered most to keep alive her hopes of securing one of the 12 qualifying places.
