Baghdatis through in Malaysia

Marcos Baghdatis progressed to round two of the Malaysian Open with a straight-sets win over Japan's Kei Nishikori.

The Cypriot triumphed 6-1 6-1 inside 54 minutes, breaking serve five times without reply as he overwhelmed the 20-year-old, ranked 105 places below Baghdatis at 123rd in the world.

Canada's Milos Raonic provided the shock result of the day with a 7-6 (8/6) 6-3 win over Russian Igor Kunitsyn, serving a colossal 23 aces along the way.

Kunitsyn's compatriot Igor Andreev fared better, beating Japan's Go Soeda 6-1 6-4, while Ukraine's Alexander Dolgopolov eased to a 6-3 6-1 win over unheralded Frenchman Laurent Recouderc.
