Bartoli sweeps into last eight
French number one Marion Bartoli delighted her home fans at the GDF Suez Open in Paris by sweeping into the quarter-finals.
Bartoli scored a comfortable 7-5 6-1 win in her first match of the week against the Croatian world number 66, converting seven of a remarkable 23 break points she earned on the Martic serve.
In the last eight, Bartoli will play the Italian seventh seed Roberta Vinci, who came through a three-set match against American qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 1-6 6-3.
Ninth seed Angelique Kerber spent even longer on court before dispatching Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-3 4-6 6-3 in one hour 53 minutes. Kerber now faces top seed Maria Sharapova.
Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer beat American Christina McHale 6-2 7-5 to set up a quarter-final against German qualifier Mona Barthel, who continued her fine run with a 6-3 6-0 win over Pauline Parmentier.
Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic breezed past former Wimbledon semi-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0 6-3 and will play German sixth seed Julia Goerges in the last eight.
