Jankovic through to the next round

Number two seed Jelena Jankovic secured her place in the semi-finals of the US Open on Tuesday by winning Sybille Bammer.

She defeated Sybille Bammer of Austria 6-1 6-4.

Bammer had upset 12th seed Marion Bartoli in the fourth round but their was to be no repeat against her Serbian opponent as Jankovic took one hour 30 minutes to secure the victory.

Jankovic claimed points from all eight of her net approaches while making just 14 unforced errors in comparison to Bammer's 40.

Jankovic, who has yet to win a Grand Slam, will face fifth seed Elena Dementieva in the semi-finals after the Russian had earlier defeated Patty Schnyder 6-2 6-3.
