Soderling beats Davydenko
Robin Soderling moved into the last eight of the US Open on Monday when Nikolay Davydenko quit their clash due to injury.
Soderling, runner-up at this year's French Open, had just taken a two-sets-to-one lead in the pair's fourth-round match when Davydenko offered his hand.
He had been troubled by a left thigh injury towards the end of the third set but it was a tame end.
Soderling was ahead 7-5 3-6 6-2 at the time and appeared to be on course for victory over the two-time semi-finalist.
The Swede had claimed the first set having battled back from a set down, Davydenko handing him the set with a double fault.
A double fault also proved crucial in the second set, but this time it was Soderling committing the error to fall 4-3 down, a position from which he was unable to recover.
Soderling wrested back control with an early break in the third set and it was all downhill from there for eighth seed Davydenko.
Soderling progresses to the quarter-finals where he will face Roger Federer in a rematch of their final at Roland Garros back in June.
