
Streaking White Sox down Royals
Mark Buehrle allowed six hits and a run pitching into the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 4-1.
The win was a record sixth straight victory for the Chicago side.
Buehrle's bid for a first complete game since May 2008 was ended when Alberto Callaspo doubled and scored on David DeJesus' one-out double.
Bobby Jenks got the last two outs for his 19th save in 21 chances for the White Sox, who have won 10 of 12 and 14 of their last 19 on the road to move within two and a half games of the idle Central leading Detroit Tigers.
At the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Bobby Abreu homered twice in support of eight innings from John Lackey as the West leading Los Angeles Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 to stretch their lead over the idle Texas Rangers to one game.
Lackey had a loss and a no-decision in his last two starts. but struck out seven and gave up two hits while only walking one.
Finally, Franklin Gutierrez and Russell Branyan homered as the Seattle Mariners beat CC Sabathia to end the New York Yankees' seven-game winning streak after recording a 8-4 win.
Ichiro Suzuki hit a two-run double and Chris Woodward added two RBIs as the Mariners handed Sabathia (7-5) his second loss in 11 starts.
Miguel Batista (5-2) pitched two hitless innings to win in relief of Jason Vargas, who lasted four innings while struggling with flu.
With the defeat the Yankees slipped three games back of the East leading Boston Red Sox.
