Ramirez named Player of Month
Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez on Wednesday was named the National League Player of the Month for June.
Ramirez hit .298 (34-of-114) with 10 homers and 13 RBI. He also had six doubles, a triple and stole seven bases en route to becoming first Marlin to win monthly honors since Jeff Conine in 1995.
Entering the final week of voting for the 79th All-Star Game, Ramirez is the leading vote-getter at his position.
Ramirez's teammate, Jorge Cantu and Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira were among a host of others who were considered for the award.
