Jamison should be ready
An MRI scan on Antawn Jamison's right knee revealed nothing serious and the All-Star forward will be back for the season.
Jamison went down early in the first quarter of the Wizards' pre-season opener against the Dallas Mavericks, when his knee buckled while he was guarding Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki. He fell to the floor in visible pain and was helped to the locker room by trainers and team-mates.Jamison averaged 21.4 points and a career-high 10.2 rebounds last season while leading the Wizards to the play-offs, earning his second All-Star appearance along the way. He signed a four-year, US dollars 50 million extension this off-season.
Washington suffered an injury blow with center Brendan Haywood set to miss four to six months with a torn ligament in his right wrist.
Haywood injured his wrist during practice last Thursday, but it originally was diagnosed as merely a sprain. He saw two hand specialists in New York this week, and it was determined that he will need surgery.
The 7-foot, 268-pound big man is coming off his best pro season, when he averaged a career-high 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 53% from the field. He also averaged 12.0 points and 6.7 boards during the Wizards' first-round play-off series loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
