Fernandez set to be released

Portland Trail Blazers forward Rudy Fernandez is set to be released from hospital after being held overnight with injuries.

He was injured while playing against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fernandez was on the receiving end of a hard foul from Trevor Ariza late in the third quarter of Portland's 111-94 victory.

The Spaniard was taken away on a stretcher wearing a neck brace, but the injury is not as serious as first feared.

"Rudy Fernandez remains hospitalised for further evaluation, but is expected to be released later this afternoon," the Trail Blazers said in a statement.

"Fernandez suffered a bruised chest and right hip pointer during a third-quarter fall versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.

"He is listed as doubtful for Wednesday night's game versus the Dallas Mavericks."

The 24-year-old is averaging 10.4 points and 2.8 rebounds for the Trail Blazers this season.
