Curry kept on by Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have confirmed that first-year coach Michael Curry will return next season on Wednesday.

The Pistons went 39-43 last season, a poor return for a franchise used to contending for titles in recent years, but team president Joe Dumars said that consideration had to be given to the challenges Curry faced as the team rebuilds.

"It was an up-and-down season for him, and an up-and-down season for us," Dumars told a press conference on Wednesday.

"The fact that we made so many changes for a first-year coach, I had to step back and be a little more patient than I have been.

"During the season, I said to myself, 'what affect is this having on him as a first-year coach?' I tried to put myself in his shoes."

But while Curry will stay, Dumars added that the roster could undergo a major overhaul.

"I have to keep all options open and on the table right now," he said.

"You can't shut off anything right now and say we're going to shut this off or turn our back on this."
