Rockets handed major Yao blow
The Houston Rockets have been dealt a major blow with news that Yao Ming will miss the rest of the post-season through injury.
Centre Yao sustained an injury to his left ankle during the 108-94 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Three of their Western Conference semi-finals series, which the Lakers lead 2-1.
However further examination revealed a hairline fracture in the centre's left foot, sidelining Yao for between eight and 12 weeks although no surgery will be required.
"Yao Ming had an initial test taken in the early morning hours on Saturday following the game," said Rockets Team Physician Doctor Tom Clanton.
"The original diagnosis of the left ankle sprain was based on the results of that test. Further diagnostic procedures performed later in the day revealed a hairline fracture on the top of his left foot.
"In order for the bone to heal properly, Yao will need to immobilise the foot by wearing a walking boot. No surgery is required and he should be able to resume his regular workout routine sometime between the next eight to 12
