Orlando 91-99 LA Lakers

The LA Lakers bagged an overtime win over the Orlando Magic to leave them on the brink of a fourth NBA crown since 2000.

The win came, in part, thanks to two crucial three-pointers from veteran Derek Fisher.

Fisher, 34, drained a field goal with 4.6 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter to take game four of the NBA finals into overtime at Orlando's Amway Arena.

The 12-year pro, who was a part of all three previous NBA title wins between 2000-02, then popped up with another from distance 31.3 seconds from the end of the first OT period to push the Lakers into a 94-91 lead from which the Magic could not rally.

Having led the game 49-37 at the half thanks to some formidable defensive play, in particular from centre Dwight Howard, Orlando had looked to have been set to level the series at 2-2 after holding off a third-quarter rally from the Lakers.

With 11.1 seconds remaining of the fourth quarter and with the Magic up 87-84, Kobe Bryant fouled Howard as the Magic star drove to the post, denying Orlando what had seemed a certain two points.

Howard, who had set an NBA Finals single-game record with his nine blocks, missed both free throw attempts to keep the margin at three points, allowing Fisher to step up for the Lakers to send the game into extra time.

Howard had given the Magic an early platform for success, not just with five first-half blocks but from his work off the glass, recording 14 rebounds in the first two quarters.

That helped keep the Lakers to just 33% from the field and trailing the home team by 12 points at the interval, their frustrations sending Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom into early returns to the bench after running into foul trouble.

The Lakers, though, bounced back in style in the third quarter as the visitors outscored Orlando 30-14 to move into a 67-63 lead heading into the final quarter from where Fisher staged his vital intervention.

Bryant once again led the Lakers, this time collecting 32 points, assisted by Trevor Ariza and Pau Gasol with 16 points apiece, while Hedo Turkoglu led the Magic with 25 points, backed by 16 from Howard and 15 from Mickael Pietrus.

The Lakers have their chance to seal victory when game five takes place on Sunday in Orlando.
