Where will Rubio be drafted?

Spanish point guard prodigy Ricky Rubio is staying in this year’s NBA Draft according his agent, Dan Fegan.

What everyone wants to know is: Where will he be picked in the draft?

For most of the season Rubio was set to be picked at the number two spot in the draft. But after the lottery was done last month, things changed. The possibility of the Spaniard freefalling down the draft board grows daily.

While NBA executives are raving about Rubio's skills as a distributor, they aren't so hot about his lack of physical strength, low percentage shot and a future dispute with his current club DKV Joventut, over Rubio's reported $6 million-plus buyout.

The Spanish Olympic sensation has filed a grievance with the Spanish league looking to lower the amount of the buyout. A difficult meeting with the Spanish IRS and the club has only complicated matters.

Rubio has insisted that he wants no part of the Memphis Grizzlies, who holds the number two pick in this year's draft. While he does not have the same beef against Oklahoma City, who hold the rights to the third pick of the draft, source claim that the Thunder will draft either James Harden or Stephen Curry.

The point guard seems to be headed to Sacramento in this case, as the number four pick. The team is in need of an elite point guard and GM Geoff Petrie has gone with international players in the past.

However, rumours from the capital of California indicate that that Kings aren't as high on Rubio as many would have thought, meaning that it's far from certain that the Kings will select the creative maestro.

Rubio has also been refraining from working out for the Wizards, who hold the number five pick. The Rubio brain trust believes that he will flounder in a backcourt featuring Gilbert Arenas.

All of that uncertainty could lead to an interesting dilemma for Rubio on draft night. His agent has been working with both the Thunder and Grizzlies to find another team willing to trade up. But with just 10 days to go before the draft, there still isn't a deal.

Rubio was on a flight from Barcelona to Los Angeles that was scheduled to arrive Monday evening. Over the course of the next few days Rubio will decide his next course of action. Most likely he'll visit several teams, including the Thunder and Kings. However, the chances that he actually does a workout are slim.
