Heat offer Wade contract extension
Dwyane Wade has received an offer of a contract extension from the Miami Heat, but he will not rush into a decision.
Wade reportedly received a text message from Heat president Pat Riley just after midnight on Sunday morning. Miami had to wait until 12:01 a.m. on Sunday before they could officially make an approach to their franchise player regarding an extension.
"It's no rush," Wade said. "We all know that."
Wade's agent, Henry Thomas, and Riley both confirmed that the Heat had tabled an offer, but both had nothing more to comment on at this point.
Wade can sign with the Heat this summer, with the contract running till the offseason of 2014. Alternatively, he can opt out of his current contract next year and re-sign with the Heat till the summer of 2016 and stand to earn up to US$45 million more.
"Like I said, I'm good here. I'm happy here," Wade said. "This is where I want to be and we'll go from there."
