Roy closer to inking extension
Brandon Roy is close to signing a multi-year extension with the Portland Trail Blazers after more than five weeks of talks.
Bob Myers, Roy's agent, revealed that contract talks between both camps have improved this week.
"We've had very productive discussions recently and are optimistic we will reach a deal soon," Myers said.
Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge are in the final year of the rookie-scale contracts, and are now eligible for an extension of up to five years. The Blazers have until October 31 to reach an agreement with either player, or they will enter free agency in the summer of 2010.
Roy led the Blazers with averages of 22.6 points, 5.1 assists and 1.13 steals last season, while Aldridge was second in scoring (18.1 per game) and rebounds (7.5 per game).
Negotiations with Roy snagged last month over the length of his next contract. Roy wanted four years with a player option for a fifth season. Roy is asking for the maximum monetary figure, which would be about $82 million for a five-year extension.
Aldridge is also hopeful of securing a long-term deal, but it is unclear where his negotiations stand. Arn Tellem, Aldridge's agent, has not returned multiple phone messages over the summer.
Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard did not comment on negotiations.
