Iverson closes in on Turkish delight
NBA fan favourite Allen Iverson is on the verge of sealing a move to Turkish team Besiktas.
Yahoo! Sports reports that the 14-year NBA veteran is close to agreeing a one-year contract with the club which could fetch him as much as $2million with bonuses.
"We are in very serious negotiations with [Besiktas]," Iverson's business manager Gary Moore told Yahoo! Sports.
"Istanbul is beautiful from everything we've learned. It's not that far from the U.S., and the competition is good which makes it all attractive.
"Allen wants to play basketball."
The latest developments may have surprised some observers as the All-Star guard was expected to take up a lucrative offer from a Chinese team, joining the likes of ex-NBA star Stephon Marbury who is currently plying his trade in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that with a career average of 26.7 points, Iverson failed to get a training camp invitation for the new NBA season.
Although less than straightforward exits from his last three clubs might have had something to do with that.
