Clippers win top draft pick

The Los Angeles Clippers will get first pick at the NBA Draft on June 25 after winning the draft lottery in New Jersey tonight.

It was the Clippers' 20th appearance at the lottery, which is supposed to give the league's worst performers from the past season an advantage going into the next year.

The Clippers last picked first in 1998, opting for the eventually disappointing Michael Olowokandi.

This time around however they are widely tipped to take Blake Griffin of Oklahoma, who was named the national college player of the year.

Speaking at the lottery Clippers president Andy Roeser would not confirm or deny the rumours, but spoke highly of the young forward.

"I think five years from now Blake Griffin will be hitting his stride in the NBA and he will be an impact player wherever he is," Roeser told NBA.com.

"He is an athletic player. He can do all sorts of things and has a tonne of talent, and I think any team will be happy to have him."

The Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder will pick second and third respectively, while the team with the worst NBA regular season record this season - the Sacramento Kings - will go fourth with the Washington Wizards fifth.

Other players tipped to be among the top picks are Connecticut centre Hasheem Thabeet and Spain's teenage star Ricky Rubio.
