Dolphins prevail in thriller
The Miami Dolphins dug deep in a remarkable 35-point final quarter to post a battling 31-27 victory over New York Jets.
Miami running back Ronnie Brown dived over the line with just six seconds remaining in the contest after taking the snap on the two-yard line on third down.
The result sees the Dolphins improve to 2-3 in the AFC East on the back of their second successive win while the Jets are 3-2 having lost two in a row.
A seven-minute drive from the kick-off saw the Dolphins take the lead as Brown scored from one yard. Braylon Edwards pulled the Jets level as he connected with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez for a three-yard touchdown.
A field goal had the Dolphins in front at the end of the first but two three-pointers for the Jets and a scoreless third period ensured New York went into the fourth with a 13-10 lead.
Anthony Fasano put the Dolphins back in front when he scored a TD from Chad Henne's two-yard pass, but Thomas Jones went over for the Jets minutes later as the pendulum swung again.
Henne, who completed 20 of 26 attempts for 241 yards, then found Ted Ginn Jnr for a 53-yard TD to hand Miami the lead at 24-20, but the game went away from the Dolphins again on the back of a controversial pass interference call.
Sanchez attempted to find Edwards with a monster throw but the receiver did not need to make the catch as Will Allen was called for a dubious pass interference.
A 49-yard penalty followed which gifted the Jets possession on the three-yard line, and Jones lapped up the invitation to grab his second TD to make it 27-24 with a little over five minutes remaining.
But that was time enough for the Dolphins to win this remarkable encounter. Starting from their own 30, Miami put together 12 plays to move up to the two, from where Brown launched himself into the end zone to secure a famous win.
