Sundin decision expected Thursday
After a lengthy delay, Mats Sundin appears ready to make his decision to return to the NHL.
The 37-year-old center is expected to announce his decision on where he'll play this season on Thursday, according to Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis.
Gillis met with J.P. Barry, Sundin's agent, and has reasoned that the veteran Swede is weighing his options between the Canucks and the New York Rangers.
"He's going to make a decision on Thursday about the final destination and we reiterated our position in all of this and formalized our offer moving forward," said Gillis, who reportedly offered the veteran center a two-year, $20 million contract in July.
"We feel good about our team and where we sit and what we have to offer and we'll see how it plays out."
Gillis also reiterated his team's interest in the first overall pick of the 1989 draft.
However, Toronto radio station 590-AM reported earlier this week that Sundin plans to join the Rangers.
Although the Toronto Maple Leafs missed the playoffs for a third straight season, Sundin had a solid campaign in 2007-08, leading the team in goals (32), assists (46) and points (78).
