Blackhawks put out Flames

Chicago posted one of the greatest comebacks in NHL history as they rallied from five goals down to claim a 6-5 overtime win against Calgary.

The Blackhawks shipped five goals in just five first-period minutes as Dustin Boyd, Eric Nystrom, Jarome Iginla, Rene Bourque and Olli Jokinen tallied, but John Madden pulled one back with two minutes left in the period as Chicago looked to regroup.

Patrick Kane, Dustin Byfuglien and Dave Bolland pulled the score back to 5-4 in the second period before Patrick Sharp forced overtime with the leveller.

Brent Seabrook was the man who delivered the killer blow in the added period as he found the net after 26 seconds to seal a stunning fightback.

The Colorado Avalanche maintained their strong start to the season as they improved to 3-1-1 with a 4-3 win against the Boston Bruins.

The Avalanche moved into a 2-0 lead in the first as Milan Hejduk and Scott Hannan netted within a minute of each other.

The Bruins levelled in the second through Mark Recchi and Blake Wheeler but Boston were on level terms for less than four minutes before Marek Svatos netted on a power-play.

David Jones then scored short-handed with just over three minutes remaining in the second to make it 4-2, and although Michael Ryder pulled one back, the Bruins could not force overtime.

New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur was the hero as the Devils prevailed 3-2 in a shootout against the Washington Capitals.

Brodeur ensured the Devils ended their three-game road trip unbeaten as he saved from Alexander Semin and Alex Ovechkin after the game ended 2-2 in regulation.

Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner scored for the Devils in the shootout while Nicklas Backstrom tallied for the Capitals.

In regulation, goals from Mike Green and Mike Knuble had seen the Capitals jump out into a 2-0 lead but efforts by Brian Rolston and David Clarkson forced overtime.

The New York Rangers thrashed Toronto 7-2 to post their fifth straight victory.

Dan Girardi and Sean Avery hit two goals apiece while Wade Redden, Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik also got on the scoresheet. Alexei Ponikarovsky and Jason Blake scored for the Maple Leafs, who remain without a win after five games.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves and Tyler Kennedy netted a brace as the Pittsburgh Penguins downed the Senators 4-1 in Ottawa.

The Penguins, the only team to beat the rampant Rangers this season, fell behind when Milan Michalek opened the scoring with his first goal for the Senators but Bill Guerin quickly levelled.

Kennedy put Pittsburgh into a 2-1 lead in the second and increased the Penguins' advantage when he hit his fourth of the season with a slap shot at 18:02.

Jordan Staal completed the scoring midway through the third.

The New York Islanders stayed winless this season as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at home to the Los Angeles Kings, for whom Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty found the net.

Jon Quick made 28 saves for the Kings but was powerless to prevent Matt Moulson reducing the deficit late in the third.

Ryan Malone struck in the third period to hand the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers. Malone scored his fifth of the season on the rebound after Steven Stamkos had seen his effort saved by Tomas Vokoun.

Stamkos and Martin St Louis were also on target for Tampa Bay, while Radek Dvorak and Nathan Horton grabbed the Panthers' goals.

Elsewhere, Zack Stortini scored twice and Jeff Deslauriers had 40 saves as Edmonton thumped the Nashville Predators 6-1, while the Phoenix Coyotes needed a shootout to see off San Jose 1-0, Lauri Korpikoski claiming the all-important goal.
