NHL: Red Wings close on record
The Detroit Red Wings secured their 19th consecutive home win as they beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 as Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi scored shootout goals.
The win helped the Red Wings tie the 1970-71 Boston Bruins for the second longest home streak in NFL history, one behind the 1975-76 Philadelphia Flyers and the 1929-30 Bruins who won 20 consecutive games at home.
Jakub Kindl scored for Detroit and Joey MacDonald made 29 saves in regulation and overtime.
George Parros scored his first goal of the season for Anaheim, and Jonas Hiller stopped 23 shots. Teemu Selanne also scored for the Ducks in the shootout.
The Buffalo Sabers came out 3-2 winners over the Dallas Stars as Nathan Gerbe scored the decisive shootout goal in the fifth round after the home side overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period.
Derek Roy forced overtime by scoring with 39 seconds left, and Thomas Vanek also scored to help the Sabres improve to 5-0-1 in their last six games.
The Colorado Avalanche won 4-3 against the Carolina Hurricanes as Ryan O'Reilly scored on a slap shot with 1.2 seconds remaining in overtime and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped a season-high 39 shots.
Gabriel Landeskog, Milan Hejduk and Paul Stastny also scored for Colorado.
The Hurricanes got goals from Tim Brent, Jiri Tlusty and Eric Staal.
San Jose were 5-3 winners over Chicago.
